The Idea Place Projects Listen to QuickMail's sounds: a new 9-minute audio tour

Hello everyone,

QuickMail can play sounds now, and the easiest way to decide whether you want them is to hear them. There's a new audio tour, about nine minutes long:

https://theideaplace.net/tours/#tour-quickmail-sounds-jaws-v1

It starts with the sounds themselves: every event in the Glass theme, one at a time, then the Soft bell and Wood themes played straight through. After that it shows how to turn sounds on and change them, then plays them in real mail: a delete, an archive, a move, new mail, a message sent and the trash emptied.

The ending is my favorite part. A sound doesn't have to be a tone. It can be any WAV or MP3 file, including a voice recording. The hosts recorded a few short phrases in their own voices, like "Mail moved" and "Invoice filed", and set mail rules to play them. You hear four messages arrive and each one announce itself.

As with the other tours, the two hosts are AI voices. The demos are the real QuickMail on a test PC, with JAWS reading it. The page has a player, an MP3 to download, and a transcript.

Sounds are in QuickMail 0.8.67 or newer, and they start off. Turn them on in Settings, on the Sounds tab. The tour shows how.

Questions and feedback
----------------------

Sounds are still a first version, and I'd like to know what you think: which sounds work, which don't, and which events are missing. Reply to this message or write to projects at theideaplace.net, and it goes to everyone on the list. Feedback on the sounds also has a home on GitHub, at https://github.com/kellylford/QuickMail/issues/920

All my projects are listed at https://theideaplace.net/projects
