Hello everyone,

Sports Scores 1.1.1 is out for Windows, and for iPhone through TestFlight. It comes a day after 1.1.0, which went out without an email to this list, so this message covers both.

In 1.1.1, soccer leagues on Windows get Standings, Statistics and Teams, read the way soccer is read: games played, wins, draws, losses, goal difference and points. The iPhone gets Venues and the rest of a game's details: weather, attendance, standings, a scoring summary and the game story. College basketball fouls now read and sound where they happened on both apps, rather than at the far end of the court. And when ESPN doesn't answer, both apps now say so plainly instead of looking empty.

1.1.0 was about long lists and missing data. On Windows, more than eight tabs become a list you arrow through and open with Enter, and a lot of missing data is back: WNBA standings and statistics, NBA and WNBA leaders, FCS teams, full team statistics rankings and whole football schedules. Both apps now read nearly all their data from the same places, so they agree with each other.

If you already have Scores installed on Windows, it will offer this update itself. On iPhone, update through TestFlight once Apple's beta review finishes. To get it for the first time, or to read these notes online:

To try the iPhone version through TestFlight:

The user guide is built into the Windows app: choose User Guide in the main list.

The full release notes for both versions follow.

Sports Scores 1.1.1
===================

Soccer leagues on Windows have their tables, the iPhone has Venues and the rest of a game's details, and when ESPN doesn't answer, both apps say so rather than looking empty.

Windows: soccer
---------------

- Soccer leagues have Standings, Statistics and Teams. Standings read position, games played, wins, draws, losses, goals for and against, goal difference, points, and where a place leads, such as Champions League or Relegation. MLS has a tab for each conference, and the Champions League and Europa League show their league phase. The CONCACAF Champions Cup is all knockout, so its Standings say it has no table, and Teams still lists its teams.

- Soccer leaders: goals, assists, shots, cards, fouls, passes and saves, up to 20 players each, from the same place as the iPhone.

Windows: when ESPN doesn't answer
---------------------------------

- Every screen says so in a plain sentence: "ESPN isn't providing scores right now. Try again in a minute." It used to read as "No games found" or "No news", or read out the text of a network error.

- A league's list still offers News, Standings and its other sections when only the scores failed. Enter on that row, or F5, tries again.

- A refresh that fails keeps what's showing, and says so once if you asked for it. In Live Scores, refreshes on the timer stay quiet unless a game you're monitoring is affected, and a league that fails keeps the games it last showed, with a row at the end naming it.

- In Transactions, a team list that fails says so, and F5 tries again and says when it worked.

- Opening a World Cup no longer says "Something went wrong" once its first phase is over.

Windows: fixed
--------------

- College basketball fouls read and sound where they happened. A foul under the basket read "deep, 78 feet out", with a note on the wrong side. It now reads "at the rim", and pans the same way as a shot from there.

- NBA standings read the season ESPN calls current.

- A football game's wrap up names its quarters: Quarter 1 and OT, not Period 1.

- The college football setting is called "College football coverage", since it also decides the standings and teams you see. Your choice is kept.

iPhone
------

- Venues: the ten leagues Windows has Venues for have a Venues tab, with the same list: stadiums and arenas with their city, state and home teams, in all three views. Selecting one shows its details.

- College hockey polls, men's and women's, as on Windows.

- Soccer standings read as soccer: games played, wins, draws, losses, goals, goal difference, points and where a place leads. MLS is in rank order, and a cup with no table says so. Leaders list Goals and Assists once, and players level on a number share a rank.

- A game's Info tab has weather, attendance, the division standings of both teams, a Scoring Summary for football, and an injury's type, detail and return date. A finished game has its Game Story.

- College basketball fouls read and sound where they happened, not at the far end of the court.

- When ESPN doesn't answer, Live Scores and Live Soccer say so, with Retry, rather than "No games scheduled today". VoiceOver stays on Retry, says "Retrying", then the error if it failed again. A failed pull to refresh keeps News, Polls and Standings on screen, and says so.

- Fixed: coming back to a game no longer reloads the screen and loses VoiceOver's place, View All on Stats reads once, a team with no news says so rather than showing league stories, and a poll with no points no longer reads 0.

- Coverage: the college football setting is called Coverage, since it also decides the standings and teams you see. Your choice is kept.

Windows known issues
--------------------

- On long lists, screen readers can give the wrong item count, because the list only reports the rows on screen. Table view gives the true row and total. We believe this is a bug in Qt 6, the toolkit the Windows app is built on: https://qt-project.atlassian.net/browse/QTBUG-149577

- JAWS reads each tab twice as you arrow along tabs.

- A football game's Drives aren't announced as a real tree: expanded and collapsed aren't said, and drives inside a quarter don't read a level.

Sports Scores 1.1.0
===================

Long lists work the way a keyboard user expects, a lot of missing data is back, and both apps now read the same data almost everywhere, so they agree with each other.

Windows: lists and tabs
-----------------------

- More than eight tabs is now a list: college conferences in Standings and Teams, and the tables in a football box score. Arrow to the one you want and press Enter, and its table opens in the list's place. Escape or the Back button returns you to the same row, and Ctrl+Tab goes on to the next table. The window title names what's open.

- Player and Team Statistics work the same way, with a list of the statistics. Their results are now real tables, so Alt+V, Alt+T, Alt+Q and Alt+F work on them, and each cell says whose row it is. Players level on a number share a rank.

- Tab bars have Home and End, Left and Right go round past the ends, and typing goes to a tab by name. S, U, N reaches Sun Belt. Eight tabs or fewer stay as tabs.

- Ctrl+Tab goes straight to the next tab's table, without stopping on Close along the way.

- Switching a table's view stays on your row, and the view you choose carries to the next table.

Windows: data that was missing
------------------------------

- The WNBA has Standings, Statistics, Teams, Transactions and Venues.

- The NBA and WNBA have player leaders, and a game's Leaders opens. It only showed an error.

- FCS teams are in college football standings and Teams, following the "College football games shown" setting.

- Team statistics rank the whole league, best first, where college basketball stopped at 50 of about 360 teams.

- Team schedules have the whole football season, including the Super Bowl and bowl games. The WNBA and soccer show the season you pick.

- Venues work for college basketball and college hockey, and each one says who plays there.

Windows: data that was wrong
----------------------------

- NFL and NHL player statistics are the regular season. They were preseason numbers, and the dialog says which season you're looking at.

- Team Hub shows a team's real record and standing during the playoffs. The Lynx, 33-11 and first in the West, read 0-2 and 8th.

- Team Info shows where a team plays now. The Nets read Prudential Center.

- Utah is in the Central Division in the NHL. The 1.0.1 notes said it was, but it wasn't until now.

- Times are right in summer for Eastern, Pacific and Mountain users.

- A blank field from ESPN no longer reads out as "None".

Windows: faster
---------------

- MLB leaders open in about 2 seconds rather than 30, in the same order every time.

- The NFL Draft opens much faster, and focus stays where you are as you arrow through rounds and years.

- Team statistics and hockey games each take fewer downloads.

Windows: when something goes wrong
----------------------------------

- If ESPN doesn't answer, Statistics, Standings, Teams, Venues and team schedules say so and suggest trying again, rather than looking empty.

Less than before
----------------

Both apps now share one source, and it doesn't have everything:

- MLB leaders have 19 categories rather than 39. New ones include WAR and quality starts. Doubles, triples, walks, innings pitched, complete games, shutouts, blown saves and fielding are gone.

- About half of MLB's team statistics and a third of the NFL's are gone, with some from other leagues.

- Player lists go to 20 rather than 50.

iPhone
------

- League leaders now come from the same place as on Windows, so both apps agree. The list says which season it is, and players level on a number share a rank.

- A team's Stats lists its own players, ranked within the team, with qualified players first. A team with nobody high in the league used to have nothing to show.

- Team statistics are the whole regular season, out of season too, and say which season. Team ranks match the league list, and college teams have ranks at all: "118th of 302".

- FCS teams are in college football standings and Team Hub, following the "College football games shown" setting.

- Team schedules work for soccer, and every league has its preseason and postseason, labelled.

- Team Hub shows the real record and standing during the playoffs, and where a team plays now.

- NFL Draft: colleges read in full, such as Georgia State, and older drafts name their centers and kickers.

- Numbers read properly: 38.3 points rather than 38.29, half sacks keep their half, and on-base percentage reads .360.

- Fixed: a tied game read as a loss, one blank game could lose a whole football week, and a failed schedule now says so, with a Retry button.

Upgrading
---------

On Windows, Scores will offer the update itself, or run Scores-1.1.1-Setup.exe. On iPhone, update through TestFlight.

Platforms: Windows 10 or later; iPhone through TestFlight.

Questions and feedback
----------------------

To talk about this release, reply to this message or write to projects at theideaplace.net. Either way it goes to everyone on the list. Bug reports still do the most good as issues on GitHub, at https://github.com/TheIdeaPlace/Scores/issues, but if you're not sure whether something is a bug, asking on the list first is fine.
