A New Project Page with Audio Tours for The Idea Place

Hello everyone,

The Idea Place projects page has had a big update.

It's still the one place that lists everything, with direct downloads for each project. But it has gotten long, and I think it's already too big for most folks. So every project now also has a home page of its own, and those pages will become more important over time. There's also a new page of audio tours.

A home page for every project

Each project's list on the projects page now ends with a link to its home page. Each home page has the project's description, its downloads and other links, its audio tours if it has any, how to get support, and a link back to all the projects.

The MLB Ballpark Seating Guides already had a home, and it's still there.

If you share one of my projects with someone, the home page is now the address to send. It's short, and it has just what they need for that one project.

Audio tours

The new audio tours page has 14 tours so far.

Two AI hosts walk through an app, and every demo you hear is a real recording of a screen reader using it. The hosts are AI voices; the screen readers are not.

QuickMail: the full tour in three editions, with NVDA, JAWS and Windows Narrator, plus a tour of the address book and an eight-part series on the settings

WeatherFast for Windows, with JAWS

RSS Quick, with NVDA

Each tour has a player and an MP3 you can download. Each also has a transcript with a heading for every part, and a list of its parts. Choose a part from that list and it should start playing at that point. The tours are on the home pages for those apps as well, and the eight settings episodes are linked from the QuickMail page.

Up to date with the latest releases

The pages now have the newest versions:

QuickMail 0.8.67

Sports Scores 1.0.1

The Chat Place 0.4.0

GHManage 1.0.0

Questions and feedback

This is all new, so tell me what works and what doesn't: a page that's hard to get around, a link that goes the wrong place, a tour you'd like to hear next. Reply to this message or write to projects@theideaplace.net. Either way it goes to everyone on the list. Bug reports about a project itself still do the most good as issues on GitHub, and each home page has the link.

All my projects are listed at theideaplace.net/projects.
